Reducing Your Spending

Reducing Your Spending

If you had time to stop and think about ways to save, you would probably come up with a long list of things you can do to reduce your spending even just a little. But, we know how busy your life as a student can be, so we gathered some cost-cutting ideas that students have recommended and used over the years.  Often, these recommendations fall into the categories of housing, food and fun.

  • Live with a roommate(s) — it’s amazing how much you can save by splitting the rent!
  • Shop with a list and buy only what’s on the list
  • Bring your own lunch, coffee, beverages and snacks to school
  • Save expensive restaurants for special occasions
  • Avoid costly phone features and services you don’t need
  • Have “free fun”
  • Rent/share movies
  • Dress for less! Shop at discount or consignment stores
  • Clip and use coupons, but only on things you need
  • Carpool, use public transit, ride a bike or walk
  • Beware of impulse shopping and buying for convenience
