What Are My Options?: A Graduate/ Professional School Financial Aid Overview

If one of your worries is how you’re going to pay for graduate or professional school, we hope you know that financial aid is available for most students for up to the full cost of attendance.

First, explore existing personal resources

Maybe you have savings or have parents or other family members who may want to contribute. You should have an honest discussion with your family about the cost of your education and how much they’re willing to help you finance it. Your family may also include your spouse or partner.

Get smart about financial aid

Once you’ve exhausted your personal resources, it’s time to investigate financial aid.

The three categories of financial aid are:

  • grants and scholarships,
  • Federal Work-Study, and
  • loans.

Most financial aid for graduate and professional students comes from Federal programs that are administered by the U.S. Department of Education or from the school you’ll be attending.
