Repaying the Holder

You are responsible for repaying the holder of your loan's promissory note. This may be the original lender or a subsequent lender or an organization that subsequently purchased your loan.

The holder may contract with a servicer to manage some or all of the transactions associated with repayment.
Work With Your Servicer The servicer on an education loan is the company or organization that specializes in handling transactions associated with student loans, including billing, collections, deferments, and other functions. Many lenders and secondary markets hire servicers to handle student loan repayment. If a servicer is being used, you first should contact the servicer, rather than the holder with any questions or concerns you have about your loans.

Note: If you are unsure who your servicer is, visit National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) at www.nslds.ed.gov. NSLDS is the central location for all of your federal student loan and Pell Grant information.

You must have an FSA PIN to access your information on this system. This is the same PIN used if you completed a FAFSA on the Web. If you do not have a PIN, go to http://pin.ed.gov/request.htm to submit your request for a PIN.

You are responsible for repaying the holder of your loan's promissory note.
