Federal Loan Eligibility

 
 
 
Federal Stafford Loan  

The eligibility requirements for an Access Group Federal Stafford Loan (Subsidized or Unsubsidized) are as follows:

  • You must be enrolled in, or have been admitted to an eligible, tax-exempt school participating in the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP), and be attending at least half-time.
  • You must be making satisfactory progress toward the completion of your degree according to the standards of your school.
  • You must be a U.S. citizen/national or eligible noncitizen, with a valid Social Security number.
  • You must not have already borrowed the total Federal Stafford Loan maximum allowed under federal law.
  • You must not be in default on any education loan or owe a refund on an education grant.
  • You must file a Statement of Registration Status by which you certify that you are either registered with Selective Service; or, for a specific reason, not required to be registered.
Federal PLUS for Graduate Students  

The eligibility requirements for a Federal Graduate PLUS Loan are as follows:

  • You must be enrolled in, or have been admitted to an eligible, tax-exempt school participating in the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP), and be attending at least half-time.
  • You must be making satisfactory progress toward the completion of your degree according to the standards of your school.
  • You must be a U.S. citizen/national or eligible noncitizen, with a valid Social Security number.
  • You must not be in default on any education loan or owe a refund on an education grant.
  • You must pass a credit review.
  • You must file a Statement of Registration Status by which you certify that you are either registered with Selective Service; or, for a specific reason, not required to be registered.

Federal PLUS for Parents of Undergraduate Students  

The eligibility requirements for a Federal Parent PLUS Loan are as follows:

  • You must be the parent of an undergraduate student who is enrolled in, or has been admitted to, an eligible, tax-exempt school participating in the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP), and who is attending at least half-time.
  • You must be a U.S. citizen/national or eligible noncitizen, with a valid Social Security number.
  • You must not be in default on any education loan or owe a refund on an education grant.
  • You must pass a credit review.
